


The reserve is one of the most beautiful desert regions in Africa with a marvellous diversity of desert landscapes set in a brilliant range of colours. Drawing sights of the apricot-coloured Sossusvlei dunes, the haunting beauty of the Skeleton Coast and the red sands of the Kalahari this area in particular is breathtaking.
The Nature Reserve is a conservation area which the owners are careful to protect and within it live a wide range of beautiful creatures including bat-eared fox, spotted hyena, mountain and plains zebra, springbok, red hartebeest and African wildcats among others. The beautiful ranges of dunes have fascinating desert-adapted vegetation and the area has over a 100 species of birds.
There are plenty of activities for your family to enjoy whilst staying at Wolwedans. One particular attraction of the Namib Rand Reserve is the opportunity to hot-air balloon over the stunning landscape below. Alternatively there are scenic flights to enjoy along the Diamond Coast and over the Sossusvlei dunes.
For hiking enthusiasts a walking trails can be arranged overnighting at a different lodge and returning the next day. Or for those who enjoy scaling mountains you can set out for the Losberg Mountain.
For families with younger children there are the fairy circles to inspire the young imagination. These mysterious bare circles in the sand dot the landscape along the edge of the Namib Desert stretching from the north-western Cape into neighbouring Angola. The fairy circles are called as such as they are typically bare circles of land that speckle both the dune valleys and the grassy plains of the Namib Rand.
