Long Lee Manor

Long Lee Manor was originally built in 1910 and over more recent years it has been lovingly restored to it's former glory of a sophisticated Edwardian Manor House. The manor offers up to 38 guests refined comfort, congenial service and enticing cuisine in the African bush.

Long Lee Manor is located in game rich Shamwari Game Reserve in South Africa which offers some fantastic big five sightings whilst on your family safari.

Shamwari is a wonderful reserve of 61,000 acres. It is perfect for families as it is Malaria Free. Shamwari flanks the Bushmans River between Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown. We often suggest that a safari for a few days is a natural extension when visiting the Garden Route.

Long Lee Manor offers large comfortable suites for families and sumptuous hearty mealtimes that can be enjoyed around a blazing fire in a restored barn. Game drives in the Shamwari Game Reserve are always exciting with superb sightings of lion, elephant, leopard and Rhino. After a wonderful morning game drive you might like to enjoy one of Long Lee Manor's spa treatments.

Long Lee Manor offers the opportunity to visit the Born Free Foundation’s rescued animals and education centre.

Game drives are in the morning and evening where you will set out in your open vehicle over the rolling hills and valleys with an expert guide on hand. There are opportunities for early morning drives leaving the lodge before dawn to see Africa stir and wake up as the sun breaks through the horizon. On returning to the lodge for breakfast you can then either head out again later in the morning or relax in the shade from the midday sun, taking a swim to cool off.

In the late afternoon, as the animals emerge from their midday cover, your children will delight in seeing elephants browsing the foliage, rhino drinking at waterholes, or a startled bushbuck motionless in the dense bushveld. At dusk, your Land Rover will pull up at a panoramic spot for a sundowner (from the icebox ) and snacks. As the sunsets and the African light fades behind the horizon your guide will switch on a powerful hand-held light. Armed with a light you'll be able to see Africa from a different perspective, catching all those animals that hide under the cloak of darkness. Between grass blades you'll see the glint of eyes starring back at you and if your fortunate you may even see some of the predators as they begin their nightly hunt. After a very satisfying few hours it is then time to head back to Long Lee Manor for a wonderful meal expertly prepared by the manor chefs, or a barbecue next to a roaring fire.
