Family safaris in Tanzania

Tanzania explore the rolling plains

Taken as a whole, Tanzania has the greatest variety and potential of any safari country. The North (Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire and Kilimanjaro) is best known and is ideal for families of all ages.

The South (Selous, Ruaha, Katavi, Mahale) is far more remote and operates in a completely different way and is better for more adventurous families with older teenagers.

In Northern Tanzania Africa Exclusive will arrange your own private four wheel drive vehicle with an expert Tanzanian guide who can see a leopard up a tree or a cheetah in the grass way before you realise its there. You move from area to another in your vehicle and use it for most of your safaris staying overnight in lodges and camps.

The Serengeti is vast – the size of a small country – with enormous herds including the migration of a million wildebeest and zebra. We arrange for your mobile camp to be located near where the migration is expected to be. We can arrange a completely private luxury camp to be set up just for you – ideal for large families, or two families travelling together.

Imagine waking up in your safari suite at Ngorongoro Crater Lodge and looking out to see the entire 80 square mile Ngorongoro Crater spread out below you. Then descend 1,500 feet to the crater floor where 20,000 animals live. A few days later you could be standing beside an old age baobab tree watching a hundred majestic elephants migrating to the refreshing waters of the Tarangire River.

Looking for a challenge…… let us arrange for you to ascend Mount Kilimanjaro, a snow capped volcano at 19,340 feet. Africa Exclusive won’t send you up the busy routes with everyone else. Instead, try a private ascent up one of the quieter more interesting routes such as the Shire. A team of fun loving porters carry all the tents, tables and chairs, water – even a few dozen fresh eggs for your expedition.

Southern Tanzania is a whole new world of towering escarpments, vast rivers, the Katavi flood plains and the Mahale Mountains where there are over 1000 chimpanzees.

These reserves are enormous, still with just a few tiny safari camps and lodges so you feel you are pioneering areas that are almost undiscovered.

Sand Rivers Lodge in the Selous is right on the banks of the mighty Rufiji River. Enjoy boating and unforgettable safaris by open vehicle and on foot. More adventurous families can set off on an extended four day walking safari with an expert guide and support teams penetrating deep in to the reserve.
